As the basic necessity of development, education is well recognized as an important issue by the policy decision makers. China conducts a state-run system of public education. Although the college entrance examination caused lots of disputes over so many years, it remains the basis for recruiting academically able students. China has conducted the nine-year compulsory study since 1986. The attendance rate of the primary school is now ninety-nine percent. However, in under-developed areas, the quality of the elemental education still needs improvement. When it comes to higher education, more and more Chinese students tend to pursue a degree oversees nowadays. It has been a trend for students go abroad for education.

There are three sub-topics:

1. China’s education system and its influence on China’s future

China’s secondary education now is primarily, if not completely, College-Entrance-Examination oriented. This orientation is criticized as confining students’ creativity and critical reasoning. Higher education in China is also facing problems and provoking controversies such as the quality of education after (over)expanding enrollment and the lack of real educators vs. the heavy weight of administration. .

2. Chinese students studying abroad and vice versa

The increasing number of Chinese students studying abroad does not only influence the Chinese society, but also overseas societies. This phenomenon may be observed in other countries as well.

3. Education in under-developed areas of China

This topic explores the status quo of the distribution of educational resources in China and the reason why the distribution is not even. It also aims to find out solutions to improve the situation and to see if social reform is possible concerning this issue.
